Preparing for Your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP Expiry on December 31, 2024
From the 31st December 2024, the UK is transitioning to a digital immigration system, replacing physical documents (BRP, BRC, Passport endorsements, and visa vignettes) with online records of immigration status known as eVisas. Here’s what you need to know about UKVI eVisas:
What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is an online record of your immigration status and permission to enter or stay in the UK. It includes details such as:
- Your type of permission
- When it expires
- Your conditions of stay in the UK
Creating a UKVI Account
To access your eVisa, you need to create a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
Here’s how:
- Visit www.gov.uk/evisa
- Click “Start now” to begin the process
- Provide personal information like your name and nationality
- Confirm your identity using the UK Immigration: ID Check app
- Link your account to your eVisa using your BRP number or application reference
You’ll need a smartphone with NFC capability to use the ID Check app
Key Points
- BRP holders should create a UKVI account by December 31, 2024
- eVisas will be required for most visa categories from 2025
- You can use your eVisa to prove your status to employers, landlords, etc.
