Your Consumer Rights in the January Sales

by Kidd Rapinet on January 14, 2013

There are many people this month out there hunting for a bargain. And quite a few will not understand their consumer rights. Just because you buy something in the Sales at a big discount doesn’t mean you lose the protection you normally have says Graeme Bellenger a partner in the Litigation Department at Kidd Rapinet’s London office: “Discounted prices have nothing to do with it. You still have the right to expect that any goods you buy must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. In addition they must match the description given in any advertising.”

If something is wrong with the goods you have the right to have it repaired or replaced or your money back. But there are exceptions. Graeme Bellenger comments: “For instance you can’t, in law, insist on a refund just because you changed your mind, or don’t like an unwelcome gift. Equally, if you buy goods marked seconds or something similar, then you cannot expect the same top quality.” If you feel you may need help, call Graeme Bellenger at on 020 7265 5467 for further information.
